Career Opportunities: At Honda Research Institute Japan, we are looking for members who will work together to develop our research. We believe in the importance of fundamental research and are engaged in it every day.

Q1 What has been your most memorable project so far?: Empowering lives of the hearing-impaired through AI-driven tech has been a profoundly transformative experience.

Q2 Are there any research topics or areas you are currently paying attention to?: Quantum computing to explore how it unlocks the potential of AI.

Q1 What are the unique challenges of working at HRI-JP?: To be able to focus on basic to applied research that is necessary for society. "I can work on basic to applied research that is necessary for society, and I am less influenced by outside pressures."

Q2 What was the toughest situation you faced and how did you overcome it?: I don't speak English, but I'm working to make robots speak English. I did my best to get through it with the help of the people around me.

Q3 What do you like most about the company?: There is a lot of freedom in how we do our research, how we spend our time, and who we work with.

Q1 Are there any research topics or areas you are currently paying attention to?: Sensing technology and neurobiology

Q2 How would you describe the people working at HRI-JP with just one sentence?: Passionate researcher enjoying their research!

Q3 What would you say to a student who aspires to become a researcher?: The road may be long and windy, but keep believing that you can achieve your dream!

Q1 What was the toughest situation you faced and how did you overcome it?: Integration & robustness testing is difficult, but using common sense to discern intentional faults from bugs is vital.

Q2 How would you describe the people working at HRI-JP with just one sentence?: My colleagues are supportive, kind, and really smart.

Q3 What motivates you to persue your research?: I really enjoy problem solving, creative engineering, and a positive user experience; my research combines all three.

The front of the main building is a modern design with floor-to-ceiling windows allowing sunlight to penetrate deep into building.

This is a bright open space with large windows and a terrace.
Break room

The break room is equipped with a coffee machine and other comforts that naturally encourage employees to communicate with each other over a drink.

Seating is arranged in research teams, separated by low partitions.
Free space

There are several free spaces within the office which allow associates to discuss and share ideas with each other. Larger spaces can also be used for all-staff meetings, etc.

The expansive office is an open space with no walls or high partitions. Individual desks are laid out in a way that facilitates communication among associates while still providing plenty of space.
